About Hatha Yoga

Hatha yoga is an important form of yoga. It is a system of physical exercises designed to increase bodily wellbeing, strength and health. With its emphasis on body postures (asana) and movements that include stretching and holding, Hatha yoga also incorporates breathing exercises (pranayama).

In Sanskrit, ha means sun, tha means moon. Hatha yoga is often translated as the yoga that brings union "of the pairs of opposites". It is the practice of harmonising the body's inner currents until they are in perfect balance.

Frequently in conventional forms of exercise people hold their breath while exerting themselves. In Hatha yoga, you will learn to control your breathing in a relaxed way in order to provide focus in the different postures. Learning to do this properly is the gateway to many of the physical and emotional benefits of Hatha yoga.

As you progress with Hatha yoga, you will gain greater flexibility in your body and mind. Like any form of exercise, Hatha yoga helps develop physical strength and also a matching development in emotional strength that will help you handle the challenges of life with a balanced temperament.

It is a great way of exercising, stretching, and freeing the body so it can be a healthy, long-lived, and vital instrument of the mind and soul.
