About Kundalini Yoga classes
Classes offer posture, breathing practices and meditation for students of all levels of ability. A typical class:
- begins with a breathing practice and 'tuning in' to centre oneself and forget the outside world for a while
- moves into a series of postures and stretches to relax the body, increase flexibility and remove energy blocks, further focusing the mind and
- improving energy flow with more breathing practices and integrates and harmonises the body, mind and spirit with deep relaxation and meditation.
Rest
During the class you may rest at any time but do try to keep up.
Tuning In
At the start of each class we “tune in” with the Adi Mantra which is an ancient yogic mantra which allows the chanter to relate instantly to the divine teacher within. Adi means primal or first and mantra means the creative mental projection using sound. It is used to tune in before Kundalini Yoga classes, to centre us in the higher self and to spiritually guide both the teacher and the students during the class: Ong namo guroo dayv namo - “I bow to the subtle divine wisdom, the divine teacher within”.
Discomfort & Disorientation
Nothing should hurt while doing Kundalini Yoga. You can expect to feel muscles stretching and some heaviness and discomfort if you are holding a pose. Just breath and the discomfort may stop. If you have any discomfort that does not ease and continues to cause pain or you feel disorientated please let the teacher know.
What to bring, what to wear
Please wear clothing that is comfortable and easy to move and stretch in. We do not wear shoes while doing Kundalini Yoga and please take off your socks so that the energy may flow freely through the soles of your feet. If you wish you may bring a yoga mat, although yoga mats and blankets are supplied.
Alcohol and Drugs
Students are cautioned never to practice Kundalini Yoga while under the influence of alcohol or non-prescription, recreational drugs.
