Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga is a gentle practice that can teach us how to rest, to listen to our body and to work with our energy and not against it. When we give ourselves the time and space to balance our active lives using restorative yoga, we are rejuvenating our nervous system, allowing it to shift from the stress response to the relaxation response and we help to revive our depleted energy.

Restorative yoga has also been called intentional or active relaxation. This type of rest is different from sleep. When we are asleep and dreaming often our muscular tension increases, as well as other physiological signs of tension. Active relaxation is a state in which there is no movement, no effort, and the brain is quiet, allowing us to deeply rest.

Practicing restorative yoga particularly helps when undergoing the negative effects of stress, recovering from surgery or illness and supporting women during the low energy periods associated with their menstrual cycle. Restorative yoga is for everyone when we need to slow down and nurture ourselves.
