Shiatsu at the Rarest Gem

Shiatsu is a Japanese form of body work therapy built on the ancient knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

The word Shiatsu literally translates as finger pressure, although therapists will also use their palms, forearms, knees and feet coupled with stretching techniques to remove pain and tension, returning the whole body to a state of calm and softness.

Shiatsu therapy involves applying pressure along the meridians (interconnecting channels of energy in the body) and tsubo (acupuncture points). Pressure may be firm or gentle, vigorous or soothing depending on what you most need. Shiatsu works by unblocking and rebalancing the energy pathways of the body, harmonising energy flow and stimulating the body's innate ability to heal itself.

Our Shiatsu therapists, aim to normalise the flow of Ki (energy) in the body. As a result of emotional or physical stress our flow of Ki is stagnant or rushing in excess. This stress you feel maybe pain or sickness. Our therapists will diagnose stagnation and excess to map a path through the tsubo system allowing the whole body to find a state of harmony. This is done by applying pressure to obstructed or weak areas to relieve symptoms and help to resolve conditions improving your strength and vitality.
